Tear Trough Filler
The tear trough filling procedure aims to help patients who have under-eye troughs, bruises, or a tired appearance due to a loss of volume in the area. Since not all the dark circles under the eyes are caused by a loss of volume, your doctor decides whether you are suitable for this procedure or not.
What causes the dark circles around the eyes?
There are three main reasons for the dark circles around the eyes: an increase in the skin pigmentation, an increase in the vascular structure, or structural troughs.
Bruises caused by structural troughs occur when there are less than normal fat pads in the lower eyelids or the fat pads are decreased due to aging. They appear in a bluish, purplish color. Tear trough fillers are used to treat them.
Increases in skin pigmentation can be caused by genetic factors such as allergic eye diseases and eyelid eczema, usage of irritating makeup cleaning products, or rubbing the eyes. They usually appear on the skin in a brownish color. Mesotherapy for hyperpigmentation and depigmenting agents are used to treat them.
Vascular bruises occur when capillary vessels are too close to the skin’s surface or the skin is too thin. They appear in a purplish color. Removing the capillary vessels with lasers or thickening the skin with mesofillers are among the suggested treatment methods.
Other reasons causing the dark circles around the eyes include lack of sleep, stress, excessive smoking and drinking, and glaucoma medications.
How are tear trough fillers applied?
Tear trough fillers are applied with the cannula method. The cannula is moved towards the under-eye area through a needle hole made in the cheek. Then, the fillers are applied deep into the area to elevate the tissue. The procedure creates a younger appearance in the short term since the troughs disappear quickly and a brighter skin tone in the long term. Tear trough fillers are generally applied to both under-eye areas, 1 cc in total. If the patient has hollowness in the mid-face, additional filler applications might be necessary.
Is tear trough filling a painful procedure?
Before the procedure, an anesthetic cream is applied to the area. Due to this, the patient does not feel the pain caused by the needles. In rare cases, the patient may feel a bit of tingling during the filling phase.
What should be considered after a tear trough filling procedure?
There might be swelling and bruising for 2-3 days. This situation typically ends on the 5th day. To reduce the swelling and bruising, the patient can apply arnica cream and ice from time to time. It is advised to avoid contact with water for the first 4 hours, and not to put on makeup for the first 12 hours after the procedure. The patient should not massage the area unless it is advised so.
How long do tear trough fillers last?
Tear trough fillers last approximately 12-15 months. It depends on the patient’s age, medical history, genetic factors, and type of filling.
Are tear trough fillers harmful?
Dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found in the skin and the filling material of the hypodermis. Since they are naturally produced in the body and are not foreign to it, they do not lead to allergic reactions. The body digests them in 12 to 15 months. Hence, they do not lead to permanent harm or change.
In which cases can tear trough fillers be applied? Can they be applied in the summer?
Patients over 18 who have less than normal fat pads in their lower eyelids or have under-eye troughs due to a decrease in the fat pads caused by aging can make use of tear trough fillers to obtain a livelier and brighter appearance. However, if the patient has severe illnesses, such as connective tissue diseases or immunodeficiencies, the procedure is planned according to the patient and the disease. If you have a disease, please make sure to inform your doctor during the planning of the treatment. Since they do not cause sensitivity to the sun, they can be applied in all seasons.
