Gynecomastia
It is normal to observe growth, enlargement, and sensitivity in the breast area of boys during adolescence. If this temporary situation becomes permanent due to a variety of reasons, it is called gynecomastia. It may start affecting their activities and how they dress and eventually turn into a social problem (such as wearing baggy clothes, developing posture problems, avoiding swimming in the public eye, etc.).
Although gynecomastia usually occurs in a way defined above, it can also happen occasionally as a result of hormonal or tumoral reasons or due to medications. It can develop both bilaterally and unilaterally.
Where is the incision made in gynecomastia surgeries? Are they performed under general anesthesia?
Gynecomastia surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. During the surgery, the liposuction method is used. However, depending on the severity of gynecomastia, the tissues under the breasts may have to be removed as well by making an incision around the nipples. If there is highly noticeable sagging in the skin, surgical operations can be planned to remove the excess skin in question. We will tell you which method is the most suitable one for you after your examination.
How long do these surgeries take? How long is the hospitalization after the surgery?
These surgeries take 1 hour on average; however, this varies from patient to patient. The patient can be discharged in the afternoon if the operation is performed in the morning; or the next morning if the surgery is performed in the afternoon.
